Public organization "Association of Railway International Electronic Documents Circulation Operators" (AED) was founded in March 2002. It is independent, voluntary, non-profit organization providing freight intermodal transportation type "sea-port-railway-automobile transport" in the ports of Riga, Ventspils, Liepaja, Tallinn, Klaipeda, Kaliningrad and on the railway stations of Latvia, Estonia, Byelorussia (Brest, Polotsk), Russia (Moscow, St.Petersburg, Pskov, Smolensk,) etc. At present, in AED there are 12 following members - State Joint-Stock Company "Latvijas Dzelzcels", private logistic transport forwarding companies, customs warehouse, as well as two associated members - Transport and Telecommunication Institute, "Frame." Ltd., which responsible for research, design and implementation of software applications for transportation supply. AED is the associated member of the International Coordinating Council on Transsiberian Transportation (Moscow) and the European Intermodal Association ( Brussel), the member of the Latvian Transport Development and Education Association ( Riga).

The main aim of AED is to create one information environmental for all participants of international freight transportation process - consignors, ship and port agents, railways, customs and other authorities of border and territorial control, logistic and forwarding organizations, customs brokers and other participants of external economic activity.


Main tasks of AED:

1. Coordination of activity and supply of interaction of participants of transportation process in the fields of:

  • quality and efficiency improvement of international intermodal transportation;
  • elaboration of one technical and technological policy when creating and functioning of one information logistic system;
  • extension of opportunities of AED members for information and logistic service of freight intermodal transportation customers;
  • attraction of investment resources for the development of information infrastructure and design of software applications;

2. Organization of training and know-how activity of the members of Association:
  • training and improvement of employees' qualification;
  • methodical, legal and advisory assistance to the members of Association.

Some members of AED are the members of FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association), CCTST ( International Coordinating Council on Transsiberian Transportation) have ISO 9002 Certificates relating to ship supply, port agent and freight forwarding.
